Rose Bay Beach

Dogs welcome — rules apply•Dog rules
Dog rating

Updated 22 May 2026

Rose Bay Beach is one of the standout harbour beaches for dogs, with a long stretch of sand and consistently calm conditions. The water is shallow with sandbars extending out, allowing dogs to wade, stand, and play without needing to swim.

The lack of waves makes it particularly well suited to nervous dogs or those still building confidence in the water. The length of the beach also means you can walk as far as you like without needing to double back.

Beyond the beach, the surrounding area has plenty of options to extend the visit, including nearby parks, cafés, and dog wash stations.

Dog rules

Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times when in public unless in a sign-posted off-leash area. Dogs are prohibited within 10 metres of children's play areas, within 10 metres of food preparation/consumption areas (except outdoor dining), from school grounds and childcare centres. Dog owners must clean up after their dogs. Source: Woollahra Municipal Council – Walking Your Dog (woollahra.nsw.gov.au/Services/Animals-and-Pets/Walking-Your-Dog)

Where there is many great restaurants and cafes and hotel and bar's plus Woolworths and IGA. There is Rose Bay RSL CLUB, Rose Bay Beach, located in the affluent Sydney suburb of Vaucluse, offers a picturesque and tranquil escape on the shores of Sydney Harbour. Unlike some of the more famous, surf-heavy Sydney beaches, Rose Bay's appeal lies in its calm, protected waters and stunning harbour views, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing day out, especially for families and those seeking water-based activities. The Beach Itself Rose Bay Beach is a relatively small, sandy stretch with a peaceful atmosphere. The water is often described as warm and shallow, making it safe for children to splash around. Its protected position means you won't encounter large waves, but you will be treated to breathtaking views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Fort Denison, and other iconic landmarks. The beach is a great spot to simply relax on the sand, enjoy a picnic, or take a leisurely swim. Aquatic Hire A major drawcard for Rose Bay is the abundance of aquatic hire options, allowing visitors to fully explore the harbour's beauty. Rose Bay Aquatic Hire: This is a popular spot for renting stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) and kayaks. It's an excellent way to get on the water and paddle around the bay, offering a unique perspective of the surrounding area and a great workout. Point Piper Kayak & SUP Hire: Another option for those looking to hire equipment, this location is known for its range of single and double kayaks and SUPs. Paddling from here allows you to easily reach other nearby harbour gems like Shark Island and Milk Beach. Other options: Various companies also offer boat hire, including self-drive and skippered options, ranging from small motorboats to luxurious yachts, for a truly personalized harbour experience. Nearby Sailing Clubs Rose Bay is a hub for sailing, with several prestigious clubs located in and around the area. These clubs are integral to the local community and offer a range of activities for both seasoned sailors and complete beginners. Woollahra Sailing Club: Situated on the foreshore of Rose Bay, this is one of Australia's original dinghy sailing clubs. It's a fantastic resource for anyone interested in sailing, offering lessons for all ages and skill levels, from junior programs like Tackers to adult courses. The club is also a vibrant center for other water sports, including windsurfing, wing foiling, and kayaking, and is known for hosting state, national, and even international regattas. Vaucluse Amateur 12ft Sailing Club: Located nearby, this club has a long history of teaching kids to sail and fostering a strong community spirit. It's particularly focused on youth sailing and offers a welcoming environment for families. In summary, Rose Bay Beach is more than just a place to swim and sunbathe. It's a launching point for a wide range of aquatic adventures, from a casual paddle on a SUP to a more serious sailing lesson. The combination of its calm waters, stunning views, and accessible water sports options makes it a prime destination for both locals and tourists looking to enjoy the best of Sydney Harbour..i saw 3 pelicans today close up eat take from best Thai 1

Rose Bay Beach feels like a bit of a hidden gem, especially if you are looking for a calm and relaxing spot by the water. The beach has a peaceful vibe, with boats anchored nearby adding to the scenic harbour feel. The water is usually shallow and gentle, which makes it great for kids and families, as well as for a relaxed paddle or swim. It is a nice place to go for a walk along the shoreline, sit by the water, or simply unwind and enjoy the views. The area is clean and well maintained, and it never feels as hectic as some of the larger beaches. Kids can play safely near the water, and there is plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the surroundings. Overall, Rose Bay Beach is perfect for slowing down, relaxing and spending quality time outdoors. Whether you are walking, watching the boats, or visiting with family, it is an easy and enjoyable place to spend a few quiet hours. Cheers Harry Says Wow

One the of most beautiful bay close to the city. Small pretty beach with amazing harbour views. Absolutely one of the most beautiful beaches for walking relaxing having a picnic with your family. Quiet little Beach with low tides easily walked far into the waters and still only ankles deep. It's an ideal spot for swimming and kayaking, and has a number of dinghy racks available for hire.
