St Thomas Rest Park is an unusual combination — a historic cemetery, playground, and off-leash dog park all in one. Under North Sydney Council's area-wide off-leash policy, dogs are welcome off-lead. There's drinking water, BBQs, waste bags, and parking. The historical markers throughout make it a more interesting walk than a typical park.

Dog rules

North Sydney is a dog-friendly area and all Council parks and public reserves are off-leash areas, except for bushland areas, playing fields when organised sporting events are in progress, and venues where dogs are not allowed. Dogs must be under effective control at all times. (Source: North Sydney Council — northsydney.nsw.gov.au)

This park has it all. It’s a historic cemetery, playground and off leash dog park all in one. You’ll learn all about local history as you walk through the graves. You’ll recognise the names on the headstones - Berry, Wollstonecraft and co. The crypts and monuments are impressive. The playground is completely fenced. Lots of fun equipment to enjoy including a train. It’s also a dog off leash park. There’s always a roll of free poo bags on offer and a water refill station. The off-leash area is not fully enclosed but it is huge, so your fur ball is unlikely to escape. It gets quite muddy after rain, so you may need to wash your pooch. Lots of free parking in the surrounding streets.

Great idea for a dogpark! It would be even better if the entrances were double-gated. Beautiful place for dogs to play and roam free.

What I didn’t expect was how much local history is woven through the space. The old cemetery and heritage monuments give the park a unique atmosphere, and the restored sexton’s cottage adds a lovely touch of character. It feels like a hidden gem where nature and history meet.

Fantastic inclusive/accessible playground with level access carousel and a high backed swing with 5 point harness appropriate for people with special needs. There's also a swing that allows a carer and infant to swing together. The less accessible parts of the playground are also beautifully designed. It's right next to the freeway but that actually provides some pretty decent white noise so it's a good place to take little ones in the stroller to get them to sleep. The historic cemetery is beautiful and sun-dappled with interesting information panels scattered throughout.
