St Thomas Rest Park is an unusual combination — a historic cemetery, playground, and off-leash dog park all in one. Under North Sydney Council's area-wide off-leash policy, dogs are welcome off-lead. There's drinking water, BBQs, waste bags, and parking. The historical markers throughout make it a more interesting walk than a typical park.
North Sydney is a dog-friendly area and all Council parks and public reserves are off-leash areas, except for bushland areas, playing fields when organised sporting events are in progress, and venues where dogs are not allowed. Dogs must be under effective control at all times. (Source: North Sydney Council — northsydney.nsw.gov.au)
This park has it all. It’s a historic cemetery, playground and off leash dog park all in one. You’ll learn all about local history as you walk through the graves. You’ll recognise the names on the headstones - Berry, Wollstonecraft and co. The crypts and monuments are impressive. The playground is completely fenced. Lots of fun equipment to enjoy including a train. It’s also a dog off leash park. There’s always a roll of free poo bags on offer and a water refill station. The off-leash area is not fully enclosed but it is huge, so your fur ball is unlikely to escape. It gets quite muddy after rain, so you may need to wash your pooch. Lots of free parking in the surrounding streets.
Great idea for a dogpark! It would be even better if the entrances were double-gated. Beautiful place for dogs to play and roam free.
There is so much history in this park! Plus cute dogs and a great little playground for the kids!
There’s a public housing home that is now occupied by a violent offender of women. A judge has ordered the offender to remain 150 meters away from the park however he is still living there. I urge women to be careful if they don’t want to be harassed, stalked, or followed home. To avoid this park, especially with children as this man might follow you home and break into your house like he did to me. It’s a shame violent offenders like that get lucky to live in a place like this especially when the previous tenant was a loving elderly woman.
What I didn’t expect was how much local history is woven through the space. The old cemetery and heritage monuments give the park a unique atmosphere, and the restored sexton’s cottage adds a lovely touch of character. It feels like a hidden gem where nature and history meet.
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
