Nobbys Beach is a patrolled swimming beach at the entrance to Newcastle Harbour, beneath the historic Nobbys Lighthouse. Dogs are not permitted on this beach at any time — it is a dog-prohibited area under City of Newcastle rules, and penalties apply. Dog owners looking for a nearby off-leash option can head to Horseshoe Beach, a short distance away on the harbour side, which is one of Newcastle's designated leash-free areas.

Nobbys Beach is one of Newcastle's most iconic and safest patrolled swimming beaches. Located at the corner of Shortland Esplanade and Nobbys Road, it is famous for its clean white sand, views of the historic Nobbys Lighthouse, and the chance to spot massive coal ships gliding into the harbour. Start or finish the famous 6km coastal walk connecting Nobbys Beach all the way to Merewether Ocean Baths.
Beautiful place to visit! Parking was a little difficult just vwcaieenit wa so popular. There's a skate park and a paved walking track out to the loght house. The beach was beautiful. Ill definatly visit again next time I am in the area. There were public toilets too. We went out to the breakwall and seen a container ship come in, it was a really magical place to be at sunset!
A pleasant beach that is much wider and longer than nearby Newcastle Beach. I think it will suit both casual beachgoers and fans of water sports. There is good infrastructure here as well as lifeguards on duty. It also offers a nice view of the nearby Nobbys Lighthouse, and right next to it are the Soldiers Baths, where you can swim without worrying about high waves and other open ocean hazards. There are also large, partly free parking areas nearby, so finding a free spot should be much easier than at Newcastle Beach.
This wonderful beach offers excellent surfing and swimming conditions, complemented by convenient amenities such as showers, restrooms, and a snack bar, all under the watchful eye of our dedicated lifeguards. The snack bar is a bit pricy, some of the toilets are unter renovation and no puplic WLAN for guests yet.
Such a relaxing place to spend your time beside the beach and enjoy sea activities. There is also a beautiful walkway around for a nice walk or jogging. The beach car park has plenty of unlimited free parking spaces. More importantly there is also a washroom and cafe for your needs.
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
