The waitress is racist towards Asian customers, which is weird coming from an Asian fusion cafe. We arrived at similar times with a few other customers, they all served with menu & table service- we did’t. We had to come to cashier to get menu, and eventually ordered. I was asked to pay on the spot, and I asked if everyone else had to do the same (because I started noticing the different treatment between my table & other tables)- waitress said yes. Lo and behold, everyone else paid after they finished their meal. Many restaurants do hybrid self-service/ pay upfront to save cost, I dont mind. But if you only do it for 1 table, I cant help to think of our difference- the colour of my skin. What are you implying- that we will do a runner and won’t pay?
Love this cafe! The cod roe cheese melt was divine and the udon delicious. Great location and vibe.
I live in the area & came in for quick nibble & drink, but I was little surprised the staffs are extremely unfriendly. Plus the food was also average; wasn’t great as it appears to be! The rice isn’t cooked properly as it should be for onigiris.. put it this way, other side dishes were better than the main (Other non rice items may be better I assume). For the overall experience at cool mac, I mean I wouldn’t expect a smile back but at least a basic level of customer service should be presented especially in such areas with a lot of regulars.
A Japanese inspired cafe in the what of Kirribilli, I've visited Cool Mac several times and the quality of the food is pretty consistent. I've also supported their sister venues as I like their concept. Food wise, I generally recommend their Mentaiko Toast, however recently I found that it has been a bit overpowering in flavour - like the ratio to the toast is a bit off. However, the general flavour profile is good. The egg roll and onigiri set was also not bad (even though the onigiri was a bit bland, the side dishes and soup made up for it). If you order these, make sure you eat it whilst it's hot, as it cools down quite quickly during the cold season. Service was prompt and staff is always friendly. Will recommend you to try this cafe, if you are in the area and enjoy Japanese inspired flavours 👍😋
Fantastic! A little slice of Tokyo in Kirribilli. Such an unassuming little cafe, that delivers well above its initial impression. This is quite a small place, with a simple fit out and quiet ambiance, that really delivers. Great service from friendly staff, a terrific small menu that is cooked to order, and consistently good coffee. What is really good is the food. We both had the Egg Roll, and it was perfect - melt in the moth bun, omelette cooked to perfection and the sauce balanced and tangy. This is a place that you will keep coming back to and is now my go to cafe on the north side of the bridge.
