Kelso Beach Reserve

Dogs likely welcome

Kelso Beach Reserve is a park in East Hills. Dogs are generally allowed on a lead in NSW public parks unless signs say otherwise — but the rules here aren't confirmed, so check local signage before visiting.

Dog rules

–Canterbury-Bankstown City Council's "Pet-friendly parks and reserves" page states: "please remember to keep your dog on a leash unless the reserve is classified as a 'dog off-leash area'." The council's "Animals and pets" page summarises this as: "Keeping your dog on a leash, unless in a designated off-leash area." This venue is not on Canterbury-Bankstown's published off-leash list, so the council's general on-leash rule applies under the NSW Companion Animals Act 1998. Since the flood and with the mud slowly disappearing, another of Bankstown Councils' little known gems is slowly comming back to life. And while some of those usually required check boxes aren't ticked like: parking and Wheelchair access, on street parking is available, but risky being along the shoulder of Henry Lawson drive. As for wheelchair access, there isn't any. So not advisable for some. Still, in the more pleasant weather or even now, there is plenty of seating for small numbers, which is where some of the appeal is with this place. So it can be quite enjoyable there having nice, clean, grassy slopes down to a small sandy beach. Also, if you venture along the well maintained cycleway, starting at the North end, there are more little picnic spots along the way. Easy to find opposite the southern end of Kelso Oval, which is about two Km's from Panania Diggers (The RSL) and almost the same distance to East Hills pub. Which in turn is across the road from East Hills Takeaway. (Not open Sundays) TIP: Go to the takeaway before the beach. A few more tides and a little rain and Kelso beach will be back to it's old self... Lovely.

A great spot to come and sit beside the Georges River. There is limited off-road parking here. The water’s edge is located about 40 metres from the main road. There is a small fence between the riverside and the road. There is a large sports field across the road from this reserve.

Great little spot right on the side of Henry Lawson Drive. No proper parking, but plenty of space on the shoulder (gravel) to leave the car and get in and out. About a 20-30ish metre walk down a slight slope onto the beach. There's a pair of covered picnic tables, bench and bins. Was easy enough to put the kayak in and set off. Not recommended if you can't carry/drag/wheel your kayak the 20-30m plus incline, but not an issue for most. Nice paddle both down stream and up.

Nice little sandy beach on the Georges River. Has a bin, 2 shelters, and a couple of benches. Good launching place for personal water sports.
