This Clontarf dog beach on Sandy Bay Road is a sheltered, sandy spot with shallow, protected water that suits a relaxed paddle or swim. Dogs are welcome off-leash under effective control, and there is a fenced area, shade, BBQ facilities and bag stations nearby. The calm inlet makes it an easy place for dogs that like the water, with a welcoming local feel. A comfortable harbour-side beach for a play and a swim.
Safe, good place to have a play on the water, I particularly swim over there with my dog, it’s shallow water.
As a long term resident of the northern beaches I consider Sandy Bay Road Dog Beach in Clontarf a fantastic spot for you and your furry friend to enjoy some quality time together. This welcoming dog beach is located at the end of Sandy Bay Road where dogs can run, jump, and swim off-leash 24/7. The doggy beach is situated near Clontarf Reserve, which has plenty of amenities, including parking, public toilets, “BOSK cafe”, BBQ areas, and picnic tables. However, dogs are not allowed on Clontarf Beach or in the tidal pool, and must be kept on-leash in certain areas. Signage states stay 10 metres away from the Victoria Chang Playground. If you're planning a visit to the off leash doggy beach it's best to go at low tide, as the beach can get quite small during high tide. It is not recommended to visit after heavy rain as it can become polluted. There is minimal parking at this end of Clontarf however plenty of metered parking at the Clontarf kiosk end. Reviews of the Kiosks will soon follow.
Hardly any parking. Taken mostly by tradies. Not parking is paid. Beach is quite muddy and not secure.
The water is filthy. It stinks of sewage and dog wee. Covered in oysters. Dog shouldn’t actually have to be in that kind of waste.
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
