Ruse Park has a fenced off-leash dog area alongside a broader reserve that includes a nature walkway, playground, and running track. The off-leash enclosure has drinking water and enough space for dogs to properly exercise. The nature path that extends beyond the main field connects to quieter areas and adds variety to the visit. It's a well-equipped local park with clean facilities.
Canterbury-Bankstown City Council's "Pet-friendly parks and reserves" page states: "please remember to keep your dog on a leash unless the reserve is classified as a 'dog off-leash area'." The council's "Animals and pets" page summarises this as: "Keeping your dog on a leash, unless in a designated off-leash area." This venue is not on Canterbury-Bankstown's published off-leash list, so the council's general on-leash rule applies under the NSW Companion Animals Act 1998. I discovered there’s quite a few entrances to the park and if walking there’s a long nature path/walkway after the field that connects to an off-leash dog park. Theres a couple of little bridges that connect u to the track & reserves on the other side. There’s a children’s playground off MacCauley Ave near the oval & also exercise equipment. Early morning quite a few people exercise there. There’s another nice children’s playground if u follow the track or enter at the end of De Witt Str. There’s also a mini train track with a little tunnel which used to be a train ride for children - I’m not sure if it’s still in use ? Would be nice ! The dog park is well fenced off with a water bubbler and a sheltered area, lots of space for the dogs to run around and chase each other. Scar had great fun and met quite a few friends. It tends to get pretty muddy when raining tho. The children’s park is nice as well with a variety of equipment n well maintained grounds. Haven’t gone further but pathway keeps going. It’s an awesome little nature walk and fun to explore! The walkway is parallel to Marshall Street - starting from Bankstown City Gardens all the way to Hoskins Reserve. There’s an entrance at MacCauley Avenue or you can join the walkway from the very end of De Witt Street but parking is a little tricky there. Maybe park near Chapel Road and follow the tracks. There’s also an entrance on Marshall Street which leads to the train area. Park would be so much prettier if everyone picks up after themselves🙂 Edit. The bridges I mentioned above were closed off ☹️
Thought I'd write a review after coming to Ruse Park for many years. Features included: * kids playground * enclosed area for dogs off the leash * rugby league field * mini train rides park (every 2nd Saturday of each month except January) * park benches and gas bbqs for picnics * footpaths throughout the park for those walking, riding bicycles, etc * public toilets The only negative is sometimes there's some rubbish on the floor from overfull rubbish bins, but other than that it is a nice park to go to
There is a dog park right behind bankstown veterinary hospital, probably one of the cleanest dog parks in the local area.
Enjoyed the park. But the connecting bridge that makes the south and north end connect has been gone for almost a year and no sign of it being repaired. A lot of locals used this to get to Bankstown shops. It also is always covered in rubbish. This park is not taken care of
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
