What people say
We visited The Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel on January 15, 2026, to celebrate my partner Nico’s birthday, and overall it was a truly wonderful evening. Beforehand, I had made a reservation and asked if the table could be decorated a little for the occasion. When we arrived, the table wasn’t decorated. After speaking with the manager, we learned that they don’t offer decorations, but he kindly explained that we would have been welcome to decorate the table ourselves and bring something along. He was incredibly friendly, open, and accommodating throughout the conversation. Although the venue usually works with self-service (menus are available at the bar), when I asked about it, the manager immediately offered to bring the menus directly to our table, which was a very thoughtful gesture. The food was absolutely delicious and offered excellent value for money — honestly impressive for the quality you get. At the bar, I ordered a tasting paddle with four different beers. Since I didn’t really know which ones to choose, the staff member happily decided for me. He was extremely friendly, put a lot of thought into the selection, and really tried to give us the best possible tasting experience. During our stay, he checked in on us a few times, and when we asked about the difference between ale and beer, he even went to double-check and then explained it in his own words. He genuinely took his time, enjoyed chatting with us, and came across as warm, knowledgeable, and passionate — just like the manager. All in all, it was a fantastic evening with incredibly kind, attentive, and welcoming staff. We felt very comfortable and well looked after, and we would absolutely come back again. The room was adequate, but pretty bare-bones. Office is only open 9:00-5:00. Before and after, the pub staff handles the rooms. The pub has really good food. I can't comment on the beer because I don't drink it. We weren't able to eat at the restaurant because there wasn't any overlap between their hours and our schedule.
We stayed at the Rocks in Sydney and walked to this place for an evening meal. We had reservations and when we walked in were greeted with a loud and lively bar scene. They stated that we had no reservations-then said "oh, you are for the dining upstairs". We went up the stairs and were very pleasantly surprised. Lord Nelson had a wonderful Window table for us four with comfortable chairs and cloth table cloth. Very quiet a totally different atmosphere than the downstairs bar. Due to its construction of years ago we could not hear a single thing from the lower level bar. Our choices were an excellent variety of premium foods. The drinks were excellent, the service outstanding and the whole experience a wonderful event. My very highest recommendation for Lord Nelson and when I am in Sydney next time I will be sure to have a meal or two here!!
3rd pub on our list, visted Friday late afternoon. Another beautiful historic pub with white sandstones. Great selections of beers on tap, we tried their home beer. I give it a 9/10, good pub food menu. Pub also have different menu for upstairs and accommodations. Overall, lovely vibe, beautiful place to have few drinks.
Bought the ribeye and shared it with my sister. Was the best steak I’ve ever had in my life. Shauna and Molly were amazing servers! They provided magnificent service and were very nice. Shoutout to the cook Taylor, he knows what he’s doing back there! 10/5 if I could. Overall, my dining experience was superb.
