Mountain Goat Newtown

Dogs welcome
Dog rating

Updated 14 Apr 2026

Mountain Goat in Newtown is a relaxed brewery setting that’s easy to enjoy with a dog.

Dogs are allowed inside, which makes it a comfortable option regardless of weather, and water bowls are available. One of the nicest spots is by the front glass windows, where you can sit with your dog and watch the steady flow of people passing by — and, just as often, stopping to look in at your pup.

It’s an open layout with cool concrete and plenty of space for your dog to stretch out.

The best cider in Sydney and that's coming from an English person from the south west. Also the speciality ciders are delicious. Friendly staff and dog friendly. What more can you want.

One of the few places around that can actually cook a steak correctly and have something interesting on the side (not just a garden salad). I highly recommend the cowboy sauce that you can order with your steak. Great tasting beer that you don't need to re-mortgage your house for. Upbeat music for ambience. Nice, friendly staff. To top it off, where else has water bowls for dogs -inside!? (See opposite the bar)

Just down from the train station at King St Newtown, the Mountain Goat is a micro brewery and a great place to spend a few hours. Not only do they have a vast range of beers they brew, but they also have great food. Of course if you're not into beer, they have your usual wine, spirits and cocktails. I had the fish and chips which came with salad as well. Very tasty with crispy chips and a great salad. The fish was one of the better I've tried in a while. Wife had the salt and pepper squid which was delicious. Certainly a place to have a few beers and great food. Plenty of room as well so your not in too of each other, with an outdoor area as well. When you go you can buy a few cans of your favourite brew. If you are into your beers, they have the taster paddles or just ask at the bar to try before you buy. I'm certainly coming back. Is dog friendly.

Great little brewery. Spacious and clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. I grabbed a tasting paddle as it was only $12 and I could not decide what to have. The sample volume was quite generous in my view and good value especially if you want to try the barley wines. Anyway I recommend this place and I will definitely be back.

Delicious food, great service and a light filled venue. Great pub in Newtown with a positive vibe close to the main strip. Ordered a steak that was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend.
