I forgot to take more photos before we tucked in! I love what this place is all about. And the food is sensational. The soft shell taco is one of the best tacos I’ve eaten (and it’s not even Mexican!) The goat curry had a wonderful warmth (spice), excellent flavour, and so tender. Friendly service. Be bold and try something new! Plenty of exciting things to try on the menu.
Went to Colombo Social as a group of five mums and really enjoyed our evening. Ordered the beetroot bhajis, saganaki, goat curry, chicken curry, crab kottu, hoppers, rice and a bottle of wine. Everything - without exception - was full of flavour and very filling (no place for dessert!). Our waiter was so helpful with a nice sense of humour. Of course, their sense of purpose and social enterprise with the Plate It Forward program makes it even better! Highly recommend!
Visited Colombo Social and had a great experience. We started with the Beetroot Bhajis, which were really tasty. The Chicken Curry was full of flavour. We also tried the Mud Crab Kottu with a small portion of rice, and it was delicious. Everything we ordered was well cooked and packed with flavour.
We opted for the set menu, which featured a selection of dishes including beetroot balls, kingfish ceviche, hot cheese with honey, soft shell crab tacos, rice noodles, turmeric rice, fish curry, goat curry. The overall flavour of the curries was enjoyable, though the goat curry was a bit too fatty for my friends. The fish curry, while tasty, was unfortunately overcooked, which created mixed feelings about that dish. As for the fine rice noodles, they were served steamed, but ended up glued together, making them somewhat unremarkable. Despite the portions being on the smaller side, there was sufficient food for the table. The entrees stood out, and I would rate them four stars. The mains, however, earned a three-star rating due to the aforementioned issues. The panna cotta was a highlight, proving to be a delightful way to end the meal. The staff were notably friendly and efficient, with the timing of the service just right—there were no waits between courses. The restaurant was full, providing a lively atmosphere that was moderately loud but not overwhelming. It is a family-friendly venue, welcoming children and offering wheelchair accessibility. Community Contribution A standout feature of this restaurant is its commitment to giving back: for every set menu ordered, a meal is donated both within Australia and in Sri Lanka. Overall, we had an enjoyable night. The experience was worthwhile and certainly worth trying. I would recommend booking.
Had a great meal at Colombo Social. Highlights were the crab kottu, king fish with chives, goat curry, and the corn ribs, all packed with flavour and well balanced. Everything felt fresh and thoughtfully cooked, especially the crab kottu which really stood out. Next time, I’ll definitely be trying the soft shell crab
