During a 3-night stay in Katoomba, we enjoyed our food so much on the first night that we returned for a second sitting on the 3rd night. All our dishes were tasty, well prepared and of a good portion size. The venue is in quite a unique setting and is adorned in quite an eclectic manner! This is definitely not your average restaurant in any way and I would highly recommend a visit. If you're not hungry then just go for a drink in the bar to take in the surroundings.

Went for my birthday and I was so impressed with my main course. THE SLOW COOKED LAMB IS ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. The red wine jus is sweet and compliments the whole dish. Host was full of personality and the quirky interior makes for a unique experience. Cocktail was lovely (Fantale). Dessert was the chocolate truffle cake, it would have been perfect if it was served warm. As it was my birthday the host sat me in the table with a view of the blue mountains which was a lovely touch. Overall very happy with my birthday meal. The lamb is seriously gorgeous and the whole reason I came to write the review!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Delightful Dining Experience at AVALON We had a fantastic evening at Avalon, where beautifully balanced drinks and thoughtful, flavorful dishes made for a memorable meal. 🍸 Drinks • Ginger Rhubarb Martini – A lovely, slightly sweet cocktail where the rhubarb really shines through. Smooth, refreshing, and easy to enjoy. • Avalon – Fresh, herbaceous, and delicate. A light, well-crafted drink that sets the tone perfectly for the meal. 🥗 Entrée We started with the antipasto plate, featuring three types of hummus—classic chickpea, vibrant beetroot, and a rich olive tapenade—accompanied by crispy baguette slices, prosciutto, and olives. The standout combination was the sweetness of the beetroot hummus paired with the salty prosciutto and briny olives. A simple dish done exceptionally well. 🍽️ Mains • Slow-Roasted Lamb – A beautifully plated dish with lamb that was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The red wine and lime reduction added just the right amount of tartness and sharpness, balanced by crisp, sweet vegetables like peas, sugar snaps, and cherry tomatoes. The mashed potatoes were rich, smooth, and a great complement. • Barramundi Fish Curry – Not your typical heavy curry—this was more of a refined sauce poured over tender barramundi. Each bite, paired with roasted pumpkin and the aromatic sauce, was layered and delicious. The fish was cooked to absolute perfection. ✨ Overall Avalon delivers elevated yet approachable dishes with thoughtful flavor combinations and standout cocktails. Highly recommend for a relaxed but high-quality dining experience.

Found plastic in my food (unfortunately i didn’t take a photo) I came here thinking it was going to be good as it is highly rated but i also didn’t have too many high expectations coming from Sydney and having been to many amazing restaurants. As i was chewing the zucchini flowers I bit into a big piece of plastic (not sure what it was) but i could get sick if i just rushed and ate the food. I’ve informed the waiter and was given a complimentary drink (the waiter is nice so nothing negative towards the waiter) After finding plastic in my food i asked my husband to cancel the booking for the following day. The portions here are good however the taste and flavours were very bland. I had the potato rosti (ordered large as a main) which they claimed was vg = vegan but it had dairy/cheese when i tasted it. Owner claims this is vegan with no dairy but why would some menu items have DF= dairy free and the potato row to wasn’t. Luckily i’m not vegan but they shouldn’t claim it’s vegan if dairy was used. I couldn’t finish the food and they gave a raw lettuce/rough chop raw tomato in a bowl on the side which reminds me of simple takeaway restaurants. My husband had the steak and he didn’t like it and said there was no flavour, tough and the potatoes were old/bland, I had a bite of the potato and it tasted like reheated leftovers. For this type of quality / lack of flavours they shouldn’t be charging this much. Really grateful we skipped dessert and cancelled our booking for the next day.
