What people say
Cafe Bondi is slightly off the beach, a bit tucked away from the tourist craze. Yet it preserves the essence of a "beach shack" breakfast cafe but with premium ingredients and attention to detail. It could be a bit on the pricey side but considering its location, and more importantly, the caliber of food, it is absolutely a slum dunk 5 stars. You are at Bondi Beach, a sunny day in a crisp morning. You want quality breakfast that is in the vibe but not necessarily overpriced tourist food. Well, Cafe Bondi has you covered. The interior decor is a bit quirky like a beach shack but it just works out. It doesn't feel cheap but rather more appropriate for the scene. The service is extremely friendly. But of course, the highlight is the food. Make sure you go for the acai bowl. This bowl is just a collection of goodness, from real granola and almonds combined with a genuinely fresh acai berry freeze. Combined with other fresh fruits, I don't think I've tasted an acai bowl this good. And they don't drizzle with honey or other sugary syrup. It is sweet just enough. The banana bread also is phenomenal. Not crumbly. Not dry. Slightly crisp on the outside. And not overly sweet. It almost feels like a toast. It just works out. The passionfruit lemonade and other dishes with passionfruit absolutely come with its edible seeds. They just add the perfect twist to whatever flavor profile you are thinking about. Mango, orange, coconut, and yes, passionfruit. What a combination that is rare in other beach towns like Hawaii. Cafe Bondi has a wide collection of propular dishes, from wagyu burgers to tropical smoothies. They may not feel coherent at first but they make it work. And massive kudos to fitting perfectly with the vibe of its location. If you are visiting Bondi Beach at brunch time, this is it. Just be prepared to stand in line since the shop is not that big.
This was my first time visiting Bondi, I've followed Cafe Bondi on social media & wanted to experience their food & coffee in person, I was not disappointed. The food was vibrant, colourful, fresh & delicious, very friendly & welcoming, comfortable environment.
Not sure where the good reviews are coming from.. the food tastes so bland and very bad - the burger sauce was nice, but that’s about it. The green bowl was actually horrible with ZERO flavour, further, their ingredients are listed differently to what comes out. The place was very dirty, the high chair we were given hadn’t been cleaned in probably over a year - I wiped it and had black all over my wipe. Disgusting, especially since little babies sit on that. Overall, if it wasn’t for the burger sauce, which was quite delicious, this place would get a 1. Also, the female waitress serving us was very very lovely.
Had a delicious bacon and egg roll here. Coffee was great. Can sit outside or in.
Would I come to eat here again? No. The food looks good, but the eating experience is not as great. I had scrambled eggs on a bread - the bread was so soggy, somebody should have thought about the excess moisture that the eggs will release and that the bread will absorb it all.. not a pleasant experience. The table next to us ordered açai bowls - it looked great but the pile of açai was so terribly served, it immediately crashed on a table when the server put it down. Also - I sat on a fabric bench - after sitting on it for a few minutes, I realized my jeans are getting wet because the bench is completely wet because of God-knows-what. Lastly, it was so loud, we could hardly hear each other with my partner.
