Itihaas Randwick is a cafe where dog access has not yet been confirmed — it's worth checking before you visit.
With plenty of free parking just around the corner, one of Randwick’s best Indian restaurants – Itihaas Randwick – offers fine Indian delights in a spacious and inviting setting with great tables and comfortable chairs. This is a busy but not noisy place. The responsive and pleasant staff served a little starter – “on the house” while inspecting the lavish menu. One of my favourite Indian dishes is the exquisitely cooked, Paneer-E-Palak. It came with cottage cheese cooked in garlic, onion masala and English spinach. Extremely delightful. An all-time favourite, eaten daily in India as well as Sydney is beef, lamb or, as in our case, chicken Biryani. It has layers of cooked chicken and comes with rice, fresh mix of herbs garnished with caramelised onions. It is basically a rice and chicken dish. As side dishes, we enjoyed cheese and garlic Naan and Peshwari Naan, Naan bread with coconut, red cherries & dry fruits. While Itihaas is certainly not the cheapest, Itihaas is clearly one of the better Indian restaurants. On a range from “forget this”, to “it was okay”, to “let’s go again”, Itihaas is a ‘let’s go again’ and soon!
The decor and plating are what stand out at this establishment, and the fact that they serve alcohol is a good fit for the suburb. When we entered, it felt beautifully set up, until I noticed crumbs on my chair. I waited for staff to come over so I could ask for a replacement, then ended up swapping it myself. This is where the “napkin on table” did not match the level of service. If you ask me, the napkins can go, as most diners around us seemed casual. The food was good. We only tried the BBQ, and there were plenty of options. The beef boti did not taste like it had just come off the charcoal and was more like beef bhuna. The prices are very reasonable for the setting, and the portion sizes are generous, so full marks on those elements. Having said all of the above, we would consider returning for Indian cravings in the future and would like to try the curries.
Update Nov 2025, ....5th visit, one of the BEST places to dine in Randwick. Highly recommended! .................................................................................................... Itihaas (Indian Food) A touch of class in the burbs. (Randwick) From the moment you step in, you are greeted with a warm ambiance and exquisite aromas that make your mouth water. The new owners have truly mastered the art of Indian culinary delights, offering a FIVE STAR dining experience that will leave you craving for more. One of the standout features of Itihaas is the beautifully presented, tasty, generous serving sizes that are guaranteed to satisfy. Food - Quality +++++ Presentation - Classy Prices - Reasonable Wine – Good value (plus the bonus of BYO) I had the pleasure of dining in-house shortly after the grand reopening and was thoroughly impressed. On a second occasion, I decided to bring the culinary magic of Itihaas home with me. Each dish was packed with utmost care, ensuring that not a single drop was spilled during transportation. The taste? Absolutely exceptional, surpassing all expectations. It is safe to say that Itihaas has quickly secured its place as one of the top restaurants in Randwick.
My goodness this is the BEST Indian restaurant. We got the banquet $55 pp - soooooo much food and every single thing was amazing. SUCH good value for money, SUCH good food and SUCH good service. Absolutely recommend. Best Indian I have had in Australia. Restaurant is also absolutely stunning, such a gem.
Excellent new Indian restaurant in Randwick - fabulous food, very warm and attentive service by Rohit, beautiful decor - my mum and I were travelling from Melbourne and stopped here for lunch as it's close to our hotel. My mum loves the flaky and soft rotis here. The presentation of the food is gorgeous and they kindly gave us a yummy starter poppadum as complimentary while we waited for our mains. Mango lassi was the best we've had in a long time! Lots of vegetarian options and a very yummy Keema naan as well. Really recommend it! They're new and I'm writing this to support them as I hope good indian food should always be appreciated!
