What people say
I booked a terrace seat expecting a pleasant dining experience, and to be fair, the staff were very friendly. However, the overall experience still fell below expectations. While I understand that the team was extremely busy, it was quite surprising that when the fireworks began, other guests came to my table, interrupting my meal, and no staff member stepped in to manage the situation. Additionally, my kangaroo steak was served cold, and I wasn’t given a fork. For a moment, I even wondered whether I was expected to eat kangaroo steak without utensils, or if I simply didn’t know the “proper” way to eat it. Despite the staff’s friendliness, these issues significantly affected my experience. I hope the restaurant will address them to ensure better service for future guests.
Great casual place to hang out. A couple of cocktails and reasonable prices for the food. Great location. My only complaint would be the service was slow. It took way too long to place an order. Food and drinks came out quickly but couldn’t get the attention of staff to order another round of drinks.
The food was presented very well, being layed out on the plate very neatly. The taste of the food was amazing apart from the Kangaroo being hard to chew. The waiters have great service, reacting quickly to any requests, and the view is great right next to the darling habour.
This restaurant truly shines in its dual personality. By day, it functions as a bright, airy spot for a casual lunch. By night, particularly on weekends, it transforms into a vibrant destination with a full bar, extensive cocktails, and live DJs, making it a spectacular setting for celebrations or a lively night out. The food is decent and you can try kangaroo meat, which makes it an essential Australian experience.
Blackbird Cafe offers a mixed experience — friendly service and great views paired with food that’s a bit uneven. It’s a classic Darling Harbour spot: scenic, lively, and undeniably touristy. 🍔 Food: The burger was fine but drowned in mayonnaise, making it hard to taste much else, and quite expensive — though that’s par for the course in this area. The pizzas were a pleasant surprise, tasty and better value overall. The kids’ pizza and ice cream combo was great value and a real hit with the little ones. 😊 Staff: The staff were the standout feature — genuinely warm, attentive, and happy to help. They went out of their way to make the visit enjoyable, even taking a family photo for us without being asked. 🎨 Decor & Atmosphere: The decor feels a bit confused, ranging from white tablecloths to casual bar areas and weird touches like a “no vomiting” warning near an elegant sink. There was even a robot waiter (not in use at the time). It’s interesting but lacks a cohesive identity. 📍 Location: Perched upstairs overlooking Darling Harbour, it’s slightly tucked away but rewards diners with great water views — definitely the highlight of the visit. 👶 Kid Friendly: Highchairs were available, and the kids’ menu offered solid choices at reasonable prices for the area, making it a convenient stop for families. Overall, I’d come back occasionally for the view and the lovely staff, but probably stick to pizza next time.
