Folio Date visited: Thursday, 19 February 2026 (dinner, opening night for Art) Folio is the restaurant tucked into the Roslyn Packer Theatre precinct on Hickson Road, Walsh Bay — and last night it felt like it had been properly brought back to life. For years, this spot looked empty and forgotten… then we walked in and boom: MAL nailed — Music, Ambience, Light. Packed, buzzing, and exactly the energy you want on an opening night. We arrived early and asked for a table. The waiter suggested we have a drink at the bar while the pre-theatre crowd moved through — smart, relaxed, and it instantly set the tone: no stress, you’re in good hands. I had a non-alcoholic beer (driver’s choice) which was genuinely enjoyable, and my wife had a beautiful glass of Shiraz. What we ate & drank Charcuterie plate featuring LP’s meats (proper supplier, you can taste the difference): cold meats, pickles, olives — fresh, well-presented, satisfying Chip were verynice and hot Cheese plate with crackers — again, simple but well done Nothing was “high-skill fine dining” — but everything was clean, correct, and pleasing, and that’s the point of a place like this. Service Once the crowd went into the theatre, the restaurant calmed down and we had a chance to chat to staff — especially Deny, who (together with his wife, the manager, and the team) handled a big wave of high-profile opening-night guests in a short window, then reset the room smoothly for regular service. That’s real hospitality: pace, composure, and warmth. Would I go back? Absolutely. Close to home, easy, pleasant, and it already delivers where it matters. I wouldn’t hesitate to return anytime — and I can see us becoming regulars as the menu expands.
We were visiting from the US...we fell in love with this place. Great food and drinks. Dennis and all of the rest of the staff were so nice and friendly. Just be mindful of the theater next door will fill everything up in the area. BTW..the espresso martini is awesome.
Best new bar in the area! It’s so refreshing to finally have great late-night meal options. The cocktails are expertly crafted, and the service is absolutely on point. Definitely a new favorite!
the wagyu lasagna is literally to DIE FOR! it was literally amazing both my boyfriend and I agreed. We were here celebrating valentines day and the staff was so friendly and accommodating. our water glasses were never empty and they were very on top of it. if you get the chance you should get the joke of the week cocktail + a joke from the staff. absolutely would recommend this place and definitely the lasanga
My husband and I were so excited to stumble across this hidden gem! A moody spot for a cocktail and a bite to eat. They have DJ's on the weekend which makes the vibe really fun and lively. Felt like we were in a New York bar. Definitely try the Flame of Love Martini and Coconut Tommy's margarita. The bar snacks were delicious. We had the poutine, buttermilk fried chicken, and jamon and manchego croquettes
