Golden Barley Hotel

Dogs welcome

Updated 22 May 2026

The Golden Barley is a relaxed, locally loved pub with a nice outdoor space to settle in with your dog.

The beer garden is the heart of the venue, and you can access it directly from the street, which makes arrivals easy. It’s a pretty, well-kept space with trees and plants throughout, giving dogs a bit to sniff and explore while you settle in. The area is also sheltered and shaded, with strong outdoor heaters making it a comfortable option in winter.

It’s the kind of place that feels easy and welcoming, with a laid-back local vibe that suits both people and dogs.

Dog rules

Dogs are welcome in the beer garden, with access via the street or by walking through the bar area.

Such a great pub. The outdoor garden at the back is my favorite spot to sit, it just has a really nice vibe. It’s dog friendly, which is always a plus, and the food is seriously good. The chicken wings and the arancini balls are absolute winners. And the cookie dough dessert? Honestly insane. One of those desserts you don’t forget, like dangerously good. Definitely coming back.

Perfect spot for a beer after work or a family gathering. Catch up with your mates or a casual date. This is a great spot that serves us all. Bring your dog an and have a smoke in the cosy garden or play pool inside instead. And definitely make sure you order some of the tasty food !!! We did and it was amazing!!! 😻

The Barley, as it is known locally, is a fantastic pub! Lots of seating in either the main bar, the dining area or if you’re lucky you can grab a table in the courtyard out back (very popular in summer). Our meals were a decent size and the chicken parmy was tender, tasty and gone too fast.😉 We started off with the garlic bread and yeah it tasted great, but I thought it was cut a bit too thin and there was too much ‘crust’ and not enough actual bread. Like I said, the taste was there, I just would have gone for another type of bread. The nachos one of my friends had was huge, after adding a serve of beef brisket for something different. I was definitely having food envy and secretly hoping she didn’t finish it all! My partner had British fish and chips served with mushy peas and a side of vinegar. He said it was delicious and the fish looked flaky and fresh. There was a meat raffle when we were there (Thursday night), tickets handed out with each purchase. For some reason, maybe where we were sitting, each time someone left the pub they gave us their tickets! We had so many we were bound to win…..and that we did! Two meat trays were heading their way to our homes! That’s dinner sorted for a few days. 😊 The Barley really is a local. Staff are welcoming, friendly and it has a really good atmosphere.

We had a family event here. The staff were very good. It went perfectly. The food seemed quite high end to me, servers circulated, offering food - rather than laying it out on a table.
