Kelly's on King in Newtown welcomes dogs throughout the venue until 9pm. The pub has a strong live music scene and a lively atmosphere. Green Ban Park is around 285 metres away for a walk before heading in.
Dogs are welcome throughout the venue until 9pm.
Absolutely pinnacle of the dive bar experience. So this place is basically what you look for in terms of any atmospheric, down and grungy bar. Great beers on tap, down and dirty happt hour food combined with some of the most genuine friendly barstaff I've seen. Everything that needs to be clean (toilets, tables etc) is super clean which is better than some other places attempting a clean aesethic. Atmosphere is top notch. Have to admit, this was during the day so can't say anything about the evening but damn. Good work guys, will be back again.
The bouncers were completely unreasonable and their actions were uncalled for. I was having a drink with two friends and, feeling a bit tired, I briefly rested my head. Instead of approaching me respectfully, a bouncer shouted, "Don't sleep!" across the venue. A simple, polite conversation would have been more appropriate. Later, while my friends were chatting about a topic that didn't particularly interest me, I wasn't contributing much to the conversation but I was awake. However, another bouncer then approached and asked me to leave. I wasn't causing any trouble, being disruptive, or affecting anyone else, so the treatment felt unnecessary and quite disappointing.
Kelly’s is my favourite place on Earth! The vibes are always high and what I always appreciate is the fantastic staff. From the moment you walk in Tony is there to make you feel safe. His genuine care and respect for patrons is a blessing to the venue. If there’s one thing I look forward to on a Friday night, it’s Tony greeting me at the door (and also karaoke with Matt)
Hands down one of the most degrading and infuriating experiences I’ve ever had at a venue. I am 19 years old and presented a valid NSW driver’s licence. The male security guard took one look at it and immediately decided to play dictator. He said “that doesn’t look like you” and demanded a second form of ID. When I said I didn’t have one and was happy to simply leave, he refused to return my ID, accused me of having a fake, and told me I could “pick it up from the police.” That is illegal. Full stop. He had zero legal basis, zero professionalism, and zero respect. Instead, he chose to intimidate, belittle, and power-trip a young woman for absolutely no reason. It was humiliating, frightening, and completely unacceptable. I calmly explained I had my COVID vaccination certificate which is legally accepted secondary ID in NSW and he dismissed it, continued to withhold my licence, and spoke to me like absolute garbage. The only reason I got my ID back is because a female staff member intervened, instantly accepted my secondary ID, and returned it proving this entire situation was nothing but ego, incompetence, and abuse of power. This man should not be working in security. If your staff can’t follow basic legal procedure and instead choose to harass and intimidate young women, then your venue has a serious problem. What should have been a fun night out turned into a stressful, degrading, and anxiety-inducing ordeal. I left feeling shaken, angry, and disrespected. Do better. Train your staff. Because this behaviour is disgusting, dangerous, and unacceptable. Never coming back. And I’ll be making sure others know exactly what kind of place this is. This is the photo of the security guard, absolutely disgusting behaviour from an individual
