We live an hour away from this place but we keep coming back for their birria and nachos. Staff is very proactive. Superb service especially Carlo who was really nice. We opted for alfresco dining, so refreshing and far from the street and crowd/ pedestrian

Food and decor was nice. However, we were only dining 50 mins into our booking, hadn't even finished my margarita or chat with my family and were asked to finish up because we were told there was another booking! The next waiting customers were asked to stand next to our table putting pressure on us to leave. I felt like I had to skull my margarita! So spending about $200 on a family outing and hoping for a nice experience, felt like a 1 star food court experience. This wasn't even cheap for Mexican food. We had to also constantly ask for water because it was forgotten about, also our table was not wiped after the previous customers. There was also an 8% surcharge that came from nowhere (no clear prior mention of it) and no courtesy receipt produced when asking us to pay, what a shocker! I think the waiting staff needs to step up their game and provide better customer service. Only the chef who walked past, helped us with some service.

Had an amazing night at Hecho en Mexico Newtown! The cocktails were absolutely top-notch — fresh, flavourful, and perfectly balanced. The margaritas were easily the standout, especially with the lively atmosphere and vibrant Mexican vibe around the place. Great music, energetic crowd, and a perfect spot for drinks with friends in Newtown. Definitely coming back for more cocktails and good vibes!

attended Hecho en Mexico on 6/5 and unfortunately had a pretty disappointing experience for the second time. My bill came to $44.20 for a chicken burrito (mild special), a strawberry mint margarita, and a bottle of sparkling water. The burrito itself was really underwhelming — only one side actually had a decent amount of chicken, while the other side had maybe two tiny pieces and was mostly beans. Despite ordering it mild, it still felt oddly spicy while somehow lacking flavour at the same time. The margarita also tasted very watered down and honestly felt like there was little to no alcohol in it. Service was mixed. The first staff member who took my order made me feel quite rushed. Even after I asked for more time, they kept returning quickly to take the order despite the restaurant being nearly empty with only one other table there. That said, a second staff member — I believe his name was Karl — was very kind and considerate when I mentioned I wasn’t happy with the drink. He checked in on me, made me laugh, and was genuinely pleasant, which I did appreciate. What made the experience more disappointing was reading the restaurant’s own mission statement on the menu, which talks about “fresh, vibrant and delicious Mexican food,” “top quality ingredients,” “no shortcuts, no compromises,” and “best freakin’ margs in Australia.” Unfortunately, my experience didn’t reflect that at all. Overall, I just don’t feel the quality matched the price point. Nearly $50 for food and drinks that felt overpriced and underwhelming isn’t great, especially as this is now my second poor experience at this venue with overpriced food and watered-down drinks. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend eating here.
