Located at the southern end of Coogee Beach, Grant Reserve is one of Sydney’s most scenic coastal parklands. It serves as a vital green link along the Bondi to Maroubra Coastal Walk, offering a mix of open recreation space, historical significance, and family-friendly facilities. Key Features & Highlights **Stan Windon Memorial Playground: Known locally as the "Spider Park," this nautical-themed playground is a major draw for families. It features a 7.5-meter-high rope climbing net (designed to look like a ship's mast), slides built into the natural slope, and interactive sound elements. The "Rondo" Amphitheatre: A circular, grassed amphitheatre and wooden rotunda that serve as a village green. This area is popular for community gatherings, small performances, and even outdoor wedding ceremonies. Barbecues & Picnic Areas: The reserve is well-equipped with sheltered picnic tables and modern electric BBQs, making it a prime spot for a weekend lunch with ocean views. Scenic Lookouts: Because it sits on the cliff-top, the reserve offers panoramic views of the Tasman Sea and Wedding Cake Island. It is an excellent spot for whale watching during migration seasons (May–November). Coastal Walk & Ocean Pools The reserve is the gateway to some of Sydney’s most iconic historic bathing spots: McIver’s Ladies Baths: Located right on the edge of the reserve, this is the only remaining women-and-children-only ocean pool in Australia. Wylie’s Baths: Just a few meters further south, this heritage-listed ocean pool offers a large swimming area and a historic wooden deck. History & Nature Origins: The park is named after Edward Charles "Ted" Grant, a local activist in the 1920s and 30s who lobbied for civic improvements in Coogee. Native Flora: The landscape was significantly revitalized in the late 1980s. Today, it features three tiers of native planting, including Norfolk Island Pines for shade, banksias, and coastal heath that attract a variety of local birdlife. Indigenous Connection: The area has deep roots with the Eora people; the southern end of Coogee was traditionally a significant site for Indigenous women, a connection that continues today through the adjacent ladies' baths. Practical Information Access: Best accessed on foot via the Coastal Walkway. Limited street parking is available on Beach Street and Neptune Street. Facilities: Modern public toilets are located near the entrance to McIver’s Baths. Restrictions: Grant Reserve is a permanent alcohol-free zone. Dogs are generally prohibited within 10 meters of the playground area.
Beautiful playground next to the beach. There are toilets next to the playground ☺️
Good playgrounds for children 3-5 years old with bbq spot so close enable watching the kids while they play. Beach and rest room also very close. Plenty of cafe on walking distance. Bus stop also close by.
A very nice public park offering walking/jogging trails with a nice ocean view, bq picnic areas, play structures, open fields, bathrooms, water fountains and plenty of birds. Very nicely landscaped and maintained.
Amazing views but the park is pretty run down. Took my daughter to play early on a Weekend, litter everywhere. Damaged playground equipment and all the rubber matting is tearing apart.
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
