The Bungalow Petersham is a cafe where dog access has not yet been confirmed — it's worth checking before you visit.
This place is easy to overlook because of its location, but it's not your typical Inner west cafe experience. The interior it smartly decorated. Grab a booth, and you won't have fellow dinners on top of you. Chilled water is provided and you drink it out of a really nice glass, not plastic. Food is carefully prepared and presented. I've gone there twice. Once for their New Year's Eve fixed menu and also for lunch. Both felt like an elevated dinning experience.
Maybe it was just when we visited as we were the only ones in there all night, but the food was very average for dinner. Definitely not value for money. Duck spring rolls were mainly pastry, plum sauce was nice. Chicken wings for $28 were okay, nothing special. The lamb skewers $28 had tiny bits of lamb no more than a 1cm square, see photo, a large portion of dip and 4 triangles of bread. Lamb tasted of nothing. The steak for $46 is deemed a “large” plate but was 8 small slices of steak and some fries on the side. Mushroom sauce straight from the microwave and gungy on the side. Didn’t take a pic as we had given up by then. Tiramisu for $19 was dry, yep dry. The sponge had hardly been soaked. Overall, totally not worth it for dinner. Pubs down the road serve better and at half the price. Shame really as we were looking for a new restaurant as we live locally.
Came across this great cafe while waiting for an appointment. Very cosy with both table and Booth seating. Had to try their savoury crepe as the mix of ingredients intrigued me. Was not disappointed! The chef definitely looks for a different vibe with flavours and it works. They have a good selection on the menu with sweet and savoury in both Crepes and Meals I was in the area again today and tried the Pastrami with Pickles and cheese... There were other ingredients as a toasted focaccia - was just amazing! Topped off with chips and a hawian summer juice and was a cracking lunch. Definitely worth the visit Well done to the owners and Chef
Love the drinks and coffee — great quality and attentive service. However, the food was disappointing. The Steak Sando was extremely dry, as if the steak had been pre-cooked and reheated, and the crepes lacked flavour and moisture. With so many great options nearby, I probably wouldn’t return for the food.
Food and drinks are so yummy! Especially recommend the baked brie, Sri Lankan prawn curry, choc mousse and a pina passion sour signature cocktail
