Pieno is a pub in Surry Hills with an outdoor area. Dog access isn't confirmed, but venues with an outdoor area are often dog friendly, so it may be worth checking. Just 250m away, Frog Hollow Reserve is a great nearby park for a walk with your dog.
I enjoyed a lovely chef’s selection dinner with my friends here on a Friday night! For $45, it was great value for a 6 course meal. Kudos to Pieno for striking the perfect balance of quality and interesting flavours during a cost of living crisis 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I think this approach would be appealing in the current climate. My favourite dishes were the strachiatelli and the dessert, tiramisu. It was also my first time trying steak tartare, and I quite enjoyed it. I also loved the sweet and refreshing lychee spritz. The atmosphere was just beautiful. We were seated outside in a beautiful courtyard next to The Winery with tunes adding to the vibe. While very busy, the service was friendly. I enjoyed myself immensely, we had lots of laughs at our table. I would love to come back again in future 😊
Visited on a Monday afternoon and it was surprisingly busy. The space has a lovely outdoor, relaxed vibe that works really well for a brunch catch-up. The main downside was the wait time — it took quite a while to receive menus, coffee, and food. We were seated for close to an hour before our food arrived (we ordered our coffee and food at the same time), then finished our meals within about 10 minutes. The food itself was average for us, though it’s possible we didn’t order their signature dishes. The coffee had a nice flavour, but was only lukewarm and the foam had started to bubble, as if it had been sitting for a short while. Overall, Pieno is a nice place to visit for the atmosphere and as a relaxed spot to catch up with friends.
The food was absolutely delicious, and I really enjoyed it. However, the cleanliness of the drinkware was disappointing. The water glass was very dirty and had lipstick marks on it — when I wiped the glass with a napkin, lipstick actually came off, which made me feel uncomfortable, so I didn’t touch the water at all. I ordered a cola instead, and after finishing it, I noticed that the glass had a crack in it. Overall, the food was great, but there is definitely room for improvement when it comes to hygiene and attention to detail.
I visited Pieno for breakfast and tried the Spanish omelette. Unfortunately, it was a bit too salty for my taste, and the coffee wasn’t quite what I expected. The atmosphere was nice, though, and the staff were friendly. I’d love to give it another try in the future with something different from the menu.
The food is made to order and delicious. The Spanish omelet was excellent (the addition of ricotta is surprisingly good!), as was the pot of fresh brewed Chai, which comes unsweetened with a side delicious honey. The servers go out of their way to make sure you have enjoyed your meal = Monu was wonderful and attentive. It's a wonderful experience sitting outside in Spring, enjoying a lovely meal with lovely people. I visited Pieno three times during my stay in Sydney and look forward to returning. Highly recommend for breakfast or lunch.
