Dixon Park sits above Dixon Park Beach in Merewether with sea views, sheltered picnic tables, electric BBQs, and a playground. A footpath leads down to the beach below, where visitors mention natural rock pools and free cold showers. The kiosk sits near the carpark; toilets are about a 50-metre walk up the slope.

In the park itself, dogs can be off-leash between sunrise and 9am, and again from 5pm to sunset — leashes apply outside those hours. The Memorial Walk and the 10-metre zone around the playground are dog-free at all times. Merewether Beach and Dixon Park Beach are confirmed dog-friendly nearby — but check each venue's specific rules, which differ from the park's.

Dog rules

Designated leash-free area (time-restricted). Dogs are permitted off-leash between sunrise and 9am, and between 5pm and sunset only. Dogs must be accompanied, supervised, and controllable without a leash. Dangerous, aggressive, and restricted breeds are not permitted. Dog owners must remove all dog faeces. Dogs are not permitted on the Memorial Walk or within 10 metres of a playground. A great place to go for a walk and de-stress. Has a playground, plenty of tables and an off the leash area for dogs, a cafe and and an incredible view of the coast.

Great little spot by the sea with good sheltered tables and seating with electric BBQs and playground for the kids. Bathrooms are a bit far for some with a about a 50 metre walk up the slope

Easy access, great views from the car park. Walk from here down to the beach or along the footpath. Free cold showers after you swim is a bonus
