Great old pub, in nice quiet location behind the hustle and hustle of the Rocks. Food was great, gotta love a pub pie and great service, and the live music make great sunday afternoon

I love this Sydney landmark! 🍺 The Hero of Waterloo is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic, but still warm and welcoming. Tucked away in The Rocks, it has so much character low ceilings, old sandstone walls, timber floors, and a layout that invites you to settle in rather than rush off. There’s a real sense of living history. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, with a great mix of locals, visitors, and regulars. It’s lively without being overwhelming, and whether you’re inside enjoying the heritage interiors or outside with a drink in hand, it always feels like a proper pub. The food is solid, comforting, and well executed. Classic pub fare done properly, with generous portions and good value for the location. It’s the kind of menu that pairs perfectly with a beer or a glass of wine, and everything feels thoughtfully prepared rather than phoned in. The service is a standout. Staff are friendly, efficient, and genuinely personable. You’re greeted warmly, looked after without fuss, and never made to feel like just another tourist passing through. You can tell they know the place well and take pride in it. It’s a great spot for a quiet afternoon drink, a casual meal, or a longer catch-up with friends. Between the history, the atmosphere, the food, and the service, it’s a place I always enjoy returning to, and one I’d happily recommend to anyone looking for an authentic Sydney pub experience.

One of the best pubs I’ve been to in Sydney, felt like stepping back in time and it had such English vibes! Husband loved the pints best he’s had outside of England and my lemon, lime bitters was perfect! Cant wait to return

The 1st time I visited The Hero of Waterloo Hotel was part of the awesome The Rocks Ghost Tour! Loved it! (Photos on its way I promise!) What an incredible place with so much heritage and history! Returned for dinner, and still loving it! The Staff are very friendly and helpful, lots of places to seat, with comfortable seating too! The meal was delicious, good size too! I might host the Sydney Book Launch for my novel "The Washing Machine" here, let's see! Its the absolutely perfect location for all fans of all spooky things! To celebrate a beautiful supernatural story with plenty of ghosts in a location with plenty of ghosts history,  its a match made in heaven!😜🎃🥰

Spectacular setting, gorgeous building. Surly and snootty/snotty Server. Guessing as Canadians , he assumed we were were from USA. His condescending attitude dripped of arrogance. Experience? Purest disappointment. Traveled an incredible distance to experience an adult child. Beer wasn't attractively priced but I'd gladly have paid 2x as much for a classic Aussie Server. Staffing matters. Please dismiss the adult child?
