Bungaree Reserve is a small local reserve in Rose Bay with a quiet, harbourside setting near Bellamy Beach. Dogs are welcome on-leash, kept clear of playgrounds and food areas, with parking on hand for an easy walk. It is a simple green space rather than a destination park. A low-key on-leash spot near the water.
Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times when in public unless in a sign-posted off-leash area. Dogs are prohibited within 10 metres of children's play areas, within 10 metres of food preparation/consumption areas (except outdoor dining), from school grounds and childcare centres. Dog owners must clean up after their dogs. Source: Woollahra Municipal Council – Walking Your Dog (woollahra.nsw.gov.au/Services/Animals-and-Pets/Walking-Your-Dog)
Today I visited the memorial burial site of a King. The King of the Aboriginals of the early Colony as anointed by Governor Macquarie. His name was Bungaree. His memorial site is at Bungaree Reserve in Rose Bay, an eastern suburb of Sydney. To pay my respects to the First Aboriginal to circumnavigate the continent. I was a bit disappointed that there was litter over this small reserve. Clearly Council is not taking care of it properly. He circumnavigated Australia with the Great Matthew Flinders. The Matthew Flinders name is associated with more than 100 geographical features and places in Australia. Sadly none for Bungaree other than the Reserve in Rose Bay and another in Central Coast to the north of Sydney.
A delecate garden area near Rose Bay Wharf with a commerative plaque for the Aboriginal elder, King Bungaree.
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
