Good hotel close to Stanmore train station. Multi areas that gives you a different vide depending on where you sit. Good selection of meals on the menu. Based on all my reviews, it's a little on the high side as I use chicken schnitzels as a guide. So 27 for a schnitzel is above the average of 25. Good schnizel though and nicely cooked with a good crust on it. Partner had a steak which was also pretty good. I'd like to come back and try the 1.4 tomahawk steak deal that they have. A good selection of tap beers for all tastes. I love seeing g an IPA each time I have been there. Staff there is wonderfull. Young man named Carrick I believe was especially helpful. A Credit to the general Gordon. Will def come back to this local and they are pet friendly in the beer garden.

Reviewing their bistro area, not rooms. First visit to General Gordon for work dinner tonight in the torrential downpour. The pub is deceptive from the outside, it's so much room once you step through the front bar (old section, I guess). The dining area is lovely; a lot of light and space, noise level was not too bad even though it was fairly busy. Many varieties of dishes to chose from. I ordered the Chef's special: Middle Eastern grilled barramundi and raw salad from their regular menu. Took photos of other people's dishes as well as they looked delicious. My barra was perfect and the raw salad was also great; it actually complemented the grilled barra, too. Both were very tasty. Service was good, staff were around the dining area and checking on all the tables. The one big plus about General Gordon is, it's right next to Sydenham station, which makes it easy to get to.

This place has such a great vibe and could be amazing if elements of the food were better. We had the grilled octopus which had an amazing flavour but the octopus was a little chewy, we also had the cauliflower pakora where the cauli was incredible but the flat bread underneath was doughy and didn’t taste nice. Bland and watery buffalo mozzarella on the bruschetta where everything else on the dish was superb, and really beautiful prawn salad, except for the heavy handed dollops of mayo underneath. I feel like management needs to sit down and review all the dishes. There’s so much potential but it isn’t hitting the mark for us.

Fantastic service from start to finish. The staff were incredibly accommodating, friendly, and attentive, even during a very busy period. They went out of their way to make us comfortable and were especially lovely with our children. We don’t get out often, so the genuine care and excellent service were truly appreciated. Highly recommend.

Have been here twice for two Christmas parties. Everyone is always happy with the food here. The salmon is really tasty and cooked really well! We also ordered the potato skins for entree which were really delicious. Portion sizes are also really good.
